Photographer David Harriman created a series entitled Mariposa in which he photographed illegal immigrants facing deportation back to Mexico. The portraits were taken at a in Nogales, Mexico, where they were sent from a processing center in Tuscan, Arizona. Concerning the setting, Harriman says “The irony of the name of the crossing Mariposa (Butterfly) seemed to perfectly evoke the plight of those wishing to cross and seek a life elsewhere, only to be returned.” Click here to view the pictures.
