Marisa Chumil, LCSW, is the National Social Work Director of the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights. Based in Chicago, Ms. Chumil oversees cases in Chicago and consults on cases nationally for all Young Center offices. Ms. Chumil also oversees the Young Center’s work on international home studies. Prior to joining the Young Center in 2013, Ms. Chumil worked for nine years in early childhood programs at El Valor, a Chicago non-profit organization, where she focused on social services, social and emotional development, and mental health services for immigrant children and their families. She received her Masters in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago and specialized in Migration Studies and Children and Families. Ms. Chumil served as a Child Advocate and graduate social work intern at the Young Center from 2009 to 2010. She began her work in human rights as a volunteer in Guatemala and El Salvador in communities rebuilding after civil war.
