Infographic: The Young Center's Work in Fiscal Year 2021

In fiscal year 2021, we served more children than any year before. Our staff and volunteers across eight Young Center offices met with children in immigration proceedings every week, listened to them, and bore witness to their stories and experiences. We advocated for children's safety and well-being and fought tooth and nail to reunite separated families.

As in previous years, Young Center staff took on the hardest cases. We were appointed to very young children for whom determining best interests can be difficult; but also teenagers at risk of aging out (turning 18) and getting transferred to immigration jail. The vast majority (93%) of our recommendations to governmental agencies, shelter staff, and other stakeholders were accepted, ensuring children's best interests were protected. We also fought for children's rights on Capitol Hill, in the courtroom, using press and social media, and even on the global stage.
