Young Center's Statement on Supplemental Funding Bill Vote
Washington-D.C. — This afternoon the House of Representatives passed a bill that would provide Health & Human Services (HHS) with desperately needed funds for the care of migrant children who arrive at our border. But the bill also permits the use of unlicensed facilities for children, and fails to include stricter standards for the care of children held by immigration officials (CBP) before they are transferred to HHS.
“We are deeply disappointed that Congress could not pass a clean bill that was focused solely on the needs of vulnerable children,” said Jennifer Nagda, Policy Director at the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights. “We hope that the public will hold DHS and Congress accountable for making sure these funds are actually used to protect immigrant children.”
