On November 3rd, our executive director, Maria Woltjen, was honored with the UNICEF Chicago Humanitarian Award for her “commitment to putting children first and the impactful work of the Young Center.”

The UNICEF Chicago Humanitarian Award recognizes Chicagoans who have made an extraordinary impact in the lives of children, whether locally, nationally or internationally. This year's awards luncheon focused on the migrant and refugee crisis and the vulnerability of children without a permanent home.

Senator Dick Durbin introduced Maria at the event and shared an inspirational story of a child the Young Center had the privilege of serving.

We're proud to celebrate UNICEF’s recognition of Maria, and the work of the entire Young Center organization. Thank you for your support, which makes all of our work possible.
